Ways to Help
HOW CAN I HELP MEET NEEDS OF PEOPLE AT HLCC?
In the book of Acts, we witness the church coming together as they made the necessary sacrifices by selling their possessions and belongings to give to anyone who had need. As we deal with the challenges of this pandemic we want our church to be a help to others.
If you have needs, you can submit them by clicking the “I Need Help” button below. If you’re doing ok in this season and want to help others in our church, click the “I Can Help” button below and tell us what areas you can provide help in.
HOW TO HELP DURING COVID-19
Below is a list of resources and information on how to help during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you have additional ideas to share email us.
DONATE TO LOCAL FOOD BANKS
Food banks are critical during this time, and they’re seeing a spike in people coming to them for food and other necessities like sanitizing wipes, toilet paper, etc. If you can help in this area select the link below.
DONATE TO THE BOSTON FOOD BANK
DONATE TO THE SOMERVILLE FOOD PANTRY
ASSIST THE LOCAL HOMELESS POPULATION
The homeless population is especially vulnerable to catching COVID-19 because of a lack of the resources to self-isolate, eat healthy, and many homeless resource centers in the city are changing their methodology to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
DONATE TO THE SOMERVILLE HOMELESS COALITION
DONATE TO THE BOSTON FAMILY AID FOR THE HOMELESS CHILDREN
SUPPORT HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS
Our healthcare professionals are working hard, long hours keeping us safe and healthy. Ways you can help are:
Donate masks and other PPE you have lying around the house to local hospitals or health professionals.
Make fabric masks / mask covers for healthcare workers. (Check with local hospitals for guidelines.)
Send your medical friends a meal delivery service gift card, or make them some freezer meals.
Call and check in on them, or send them encouraging cards in the mail.
SUPPORT NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS AFFECTED BY SOCIAL ISOLATION
We are meant to be in community, so a period of extended social isolation can be detrimental to our mental, emotional, and even physical well-being! Call your loved ones who live by themselves or feel isolated. We all need each other. Utilize apps like, FaceTime, and Zoom to send friends messages.
SUPPORTING SENIOR ADULTS IN OUR COMMUNITY.
Because of their higher risk, encourage the senior adults in your life to stay at home as much as possible. Help them do so by calling them or making supply runs for them. Here are some other ideas on how to help seniors in our community:
Call your local nursing home, see if they would be interested in having someone read to their patients.
Serve at Meals on Wheels.
